Course Information: Collecting rainwater in a barrel can save you money during the dry seasons and reduce demand on your well or save on your water bill. With a roof of 1,000 square feet, an inch of rain can generate 600 gallons of water! Save water and money, provide plants the water they love, and protect the Chesapeake Bay all while you learn about the importance of the watershed and your role in keeping it healthy! Through hands on lessons and demonstrations, you will come to understand the responsibility every community member has to maintain the local watershed. Leave with the knowledge and the tools to begin to make a difference. Each student will leave with a completed rain barrel, ready to install on their property and decorated to accentuate their home landscape, the knowledge on how to install and maintain their rain barrel, directions to utilize the SMART Tool (Storm Management and Restoration Tracker) as well as directions on applying for tax credit for the rain barrels. All materials are included in the cost of the class.
