Volunteers Matter

Since 1975, donors and volunteers have made sure that the Humane Society of Charles County has the resources necessary to keep operating effectively and efficiently. The revenue generated by fees and shelter services provides approximately 44% of our annual funding. Donors provide the additional financial resources needed to ensure we are able to provide the services and programs we do for our community.

Volunteers augment our staffing, helping to make our resources stretch so that we can save more animals. Volunteers help stretch our dollars so that we continue to direct the majority of our resources directly to our animals without compromising on the quality and breadth of our programs and services. In a world where every penny is pinched to create maximum value, donors and volunteers are integral to our being able to do what we do to help save the lives of the precious animals in our care.

Volunteers not only provide valuable resources, they share their energy and their hearts. They remind us every day that we are part of the fabric of a caring community. They give us hope. Strength. Encouragement. They remind us that we do not stand alone in helping homeless, injured, and neglected animals, we stand together. And together, we make a difference.

The Humane Society of Charles County welcomes volunteers of all ages and abilities. All new potential adult and junior volunteers will need to complete an Adult Volunteer Application or Junior Volunteer Application online. A $25.00 application and training fee applies and includes a background check for adults, new volunteer orientation, a volunteer T-Shirt, a volunteer name badge, and basic shelter training for care of cats and dogs. If you are ready to make a big difference in the lives of our homeless pets… register to become a volunteer today!
