UPDATED ADOPTION POLICIES: Due to the current Covid-19 Health Crisis and the requirements for social distancing we have modified our current adoption procedures.

Visitation of the pets is currently not allowed.

  • Please review the selections of available cats, dogs and small animal on our corresponding Pet Adoption Pages.
  • If you find a pet you are interested in adopting you may complete an adoption application to be submitted electronically to our Adoption Team.
  • Pending approval of your application, you will be notified as to the availability of your requested pet and offered the opportunity to make a payment  placing a hold on your desired pet.
  • You will be scheduled for an appointment for a ‘Meet and Greet” visit with your approved pet to finalize the adoption.
  • Thank you for understanding the restrictions necessary to keep our staff and pets safe during this crisis.

Why we charge an adoption fee

The Humane Society of Charles County (HSCC) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that relies completely on private donations and its own fundraising abilities to operate. We do not receive any federal, state or government funding or any funds from any national animal welfare organizations to operate.

The fees collected from the adoption of each animal help to offset some of the costs involved in providing care for the animals and preparing an animal for placement into a new home.

*****NEW****** ALL DOGS are required to leave the shelter once adopted on a leash/collar. When adopting a dog, please bring these items with you.

However, if you do not have them, NO WORRIES — we’ve got your #HSCCRescue Leash/Collar available for purchase. Help the shelter, help the pets by purchasing a dog leash and collar, or a cat collar!

Dog leashes are $10
Dog collars $15 (all sizes)
Cat collars $8

The leash and collar are REQUIRED for dogs!
