Back in 1975, a small group of local volunteers began the journey of forming the Humane Society of Charles County. Setting up shop out of a garage because they couldn't bear to see injured and neglected animals slip through the cracks, they laid the foundation for our shelter's work. We officially incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in August 1979, built on a deep respect for all life—both animal and human. Today, we continue to run on that same driven and compassionate spirit. Your support directly carries this legacy forward, giving every animal that walks through our doors a safe place to heal and a chance at a happy life.
Together, we make a difference:
- $25 – Microchips a lost pet to help reunite them with their family
- $50 – Supplies kitten/puppy milk for a litter of 4 for a week
- $150 – Provides necessary vaccines and medications preventing disease and health issues
- $250 – Enables us to spay/neuter a cat or dog for adoption
