A Message from HSCC Director April Hodges:
One week ago, we shared a difficult message with our community. After more than 50 years of serving Charles County, the Humane Society of Charles County was facing the possibility of closing our doors without immediate financial support.
Today, we are overwhelmed with gratitude.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of hundreds of supporters across Southern Maryland and beyond, we have surpassed our initial $125,000 fundraising goal. Your donations, shares, messages of encouragement and offers to volunteer have reminded us just how deeply this shelter matters to our community.
We have also been incredibly moved by the many people who have stepped forward to offer their time and professional skills to help HSCC. Supporters from across the region and beyond have volunteered expertise in areas such as marketing and media outreach, communications, grant writing, photography, grooming services, event planning and more.
Because of you, HSCC can continue providing safety, care and second chances to the animals who depend on us.
However, while this outpouring of support has helped stabilize us in the short term, our work is far from over. To ensure the long-term future of the shelter, we need reliable monthly donations that allow us to provide food, medical care and shelter to animals year-round.
If you are able, please consider becoming a monthly supporter. Even a small recurring donation helps create the stability we need to continue this lifesaving work.
HSCC is funded entirely through private donations and does not receive funding from the county, the state or the Humane Society of the United States. Every contribution directly supports the animals in our care.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for standing with us during this critical moment.

With gratitude,
April Hodges, HSCC Director
