HSCC Veterinarian Services
Since 1990 the HSCC Spay & Neuter Clinic has been providing low-cost surgery, vaccinations, and other services to families throughout Southern Maryland. Through our grant vouchers, families can have their cat or dog spayed or neutered for free. Our monthly Healthy Pet Clinics provide families with an affordable option to keep their pets healthy with annual exams, vaccinations, and diagnostic tests.
Dr. Holly Powers, VMD
Caring for animals has always been a part of Dr. Holly Powers’ life. Growing up, her family had the best Jack Russel Terrier named Phoenix, and they also had several horses and cats. Caring for a sick, stray barn kitten was really what propelled her into veterinary medicine.
Being a native of Pennsylvania, she attended the University of Pennsylvania to obtain her veterinary degree. This is where she developed a strong interest in shelter and emergency medicine. She went on to complete a rotating veterinary internship at the Regional Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield, VA. Since then, she has worked in local emergency and general practice animal hospitals.
Her professional interests include surgery and emergency cases. She is very excited to join the team at HSCC. Her hope is that her uniquely varied background will help the shelter grow in new ways.
Outside of work, she enjoys traveling and playing board games. Since moving to Southern Maryland in 2016, she has loved spending summer days on the bay with her husband and their Labrador Retrievers, Ying and Yang. They also have quite the sassy cat named Saphira.
